What are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged twisted veins near the surface of the skin. They are more commonly found in the legs and feet, because these areas experience more pressure. The veins become varicose because of weakened valves. When the valves do not work properly, the blood which should be traveling one way becomes trapped in the veins, and pressure begins to build. As a result, the veins become twisted and enlarged.
Being obese or pregnant may increase the risk of developing varicose veins, because of the added pressure on the legs. FAITH Surgical Center’s vein specialist should be contacted to provide relief for this painful leg condition.
